HST/GST Registration

After you register for GST/HST:

As an GST/HST registrant, you:

charge the GST/HST
file a GST/HST return
remit (pay) the GST/HST (including instalment payments)
may be eligible to claim input tax credits

If you are thinking of becoming a Contractor then you will be required to charge GST for your services (in most cases).

To charge GST/HST you must first obtain a GST Number from the Federal Government. There is no cost to register.

GST/HST Registration:

You can open a GST/HST account using one of the following ways:

Using Business Registration Online
Using Form RC1, Request for a business number and certain program accounts
Calling 1.800.959.5525. You will be asked to answer questions from Form RC1.

GST/HST Netfile Registration:

GST/HST NETFILE is a new Internet-based filing service that allows certain business clients to file their goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) returns directly to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) over the Internet.
